Studio Policies

Cancellation Policy:

SeaBird Pottery Studio aims to cultivate a space that is welcoming and inclusive to share our passion for clay. We understand that life can be unpredictable and that cancellations happen. However, as a small business, cancellations significantly affect our operations so the following guidelines have been established.

  • Any classes or workshops cancelled by the Studio will be refunded 100%.
  • Class fee is refundable up to two weeks prior to the start of the course.
  • Cancellations with fewer than 14 days notice are eligible for 50% refund.
  • Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will result in no refund
  • Any make-up sessions will be subject to $75 hr private session fee.

Fees and Class Schedule:

  • Class fees cover instructed class time, use of tools and equipment, the designated amount of clay appropriate for the chosen class, glazing and firing your pieces.

Studio Rules:

  • Please be respectful of and courteous to other students, their space, and their work. Failure to do so will result in revocation of studio priviledges.
  • Long hair must be tied back and any loose clothing must be secured.
  • Students must be 18 or older. We make some exceptions for younger students who enroll in the course with a parent but please reach out to us before registering, if this is the case. You may email us at hello@seabirdpottery.com.
  • Only students registered for classes or open studio are allowed to use facilities. Outside guests or visitors are not permitted unless previously authorized.
  • Only clay purchased in-house can be used in the studio unless otherwise approved. Lower fire clay may ruin our kiln and other students’ work.
  • Should you choose to purchase your own glaze, it must be approved prior to being fired.
  • Only pieces created during class or open studio time will be fired, unless otherwise arranged with the instructor.
  • Please keep in mind that this studio space is not intended for production artists or resale ventures.
  • All completed work must be picked up from the studio no later than 30 days after the pieces are out of the kiln and the student has been notified. We will notify you by text or email. Any pieces left behind for more than 30 days will be discarded to the free pile.
  • Do not sweep the floor or sand your pieces inside, as this releases particulates in the air.
  • No loading, unloading, or otherwise handling the kilns by the students.
  • You are responsible for leaving the studio in a clean condition. Clean all tools and return them to their right places. Wipe down all equipment and workspaces you have used.

Please practice the art of detachment. Despite everyone’s best efforts and intentions, things can get broken when being moved. Recognize that pottery is an art, and clay can be a fickle beast; we cannot guarantee that your pieces will come out the way that you envision, or that they will survive all the stages of the making process. We do our best to shepherd every piece lovingly through the ceramic process, but sometimes accidents, errors, and acts of God occur, in which case your work may not come out how you dreamed. We are very sorry when this happens, but we will not be held liable for it.

Note:

*All finished student work MUST be picked up 30 days after notification.
